A succinct summary of Xtane:

Xtane is a wonderful product that stops the proliferation of breast cancer in women by bringing down the level of estrogen in postmenopausal women. The chemical behind this hugely popular brand is Exemestane (chief active constituent). It works by lowering the estrogen level due to which certain kinds of cancer cells that thrive on estrogen are found dead. Xtane is mostly given to those women in whom no other therapy like radiation, surgery etc had had any effects.

Xtane modus operandi:

Exemestane is an aromatase inhibitor and an anti-estrogen class of drug. It works primarily on ER-positive cells i.e. calls which have an estrogen receptor. Exemestane irreversibly inhibits the enzyme Aromatase type 1 which is essential for in situ estrogen production. It forms a false substrate for the enzyme which binds irreversibly to it and stops its functioning. This way it stops androgen from being converted into estrogen.
